Feb 2017 Range closing for maintenance.

High Power and Indoor Range Outages Due to Repairs and Renovations

We are now moving forward with much-needed repair and renovations to the High Power and Indoor Ranges.
Effective Today:
  • The High Power Rifle Range will be closed from February 14th to March 3rd.   If work is complete prior to March 3rd we will send another notice out.
  • The Indoor Range will be closed until March 10th.  If work is complete before the March 10th date, we will send another notice out.
At the High Power Range, the railroad tie retaining wall is in imminent danger of collapsing – the wooden ties have rotted and the wall is bowed out in places with dirt spilling through.  Repairs involve replacing 130 feet of the damaged wall from Target 1 to 14.
At the Indoor Range, lighting and floor tile is being replaced, walls painted, and installation of sound abatement.
All repairs have been needed for a long time.  Coordination has been secured with two contractors to perform the work.    We apologize this news didn’t make it into the February Rangefinder or newsletter.  In order to not disrupt competition season, work had to be expedited at the present time.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

3/20/16 Fund raiser match added

posted Mar 15, 2016, 5:02 PM by Gerald Bowers

Right after the EIC on March 20th at 3pm, we are hosting a benefit sniper match for Lance Corporal Cody Evans, who lost both legs to an IED in Afghanistan.  The proceeds will go towards construction of an accessible home in Speedwell, TN for Cody and his family.

This match will be similar to the CMP Vintage Sniper match, except you compete as an individual, and there are no limitations on rifles or sighting systems (EXCEPT NO 50 BMG or Variants, and the entire match is shot at 600 yds.

There will be a 5 minute sighter period with unlimited sighters, and then 10 shots for record at the NRA F-Class target if using a scope, or the NRA MR target for dyed-in-the wool Service rifle shooters or match rifle shooters with aperture sights.  There will be food involved as well.  Lunch if you aren't in the EIC, and dinner for all.

Please consider participating, or at least volunteering to help in the pits or the line.  Your assistance is especially needed in the pits since many participants may not have target pulling experience.

You will also get to meet the members of some local law enforcement SWAT teams that will compete.

So, If you wish to participate, and you are shooting in the EIC match, PLEASE read this part very carefully:

If you are shooting in the EIC and want to compete in the Sniper Match, you must let Stephen Arvan, the Match Sponsor know because he will be registering competitors starting at 1pm.  You will not be able to break away from the match to register, so Stephen needs to know ahead of time so you can be squadded.

Stephen's e-mail is stephen.arvan@serviceexperts.com

US Army Marksmanship Unit to Host Unique, First-of-a Kind Mentor Match at ORSA

DATES:  Wednesday, April 30, 2014, and Wednesday, June 4, 2014

TIME: 8am ORSA Clubhouse to register. First Shot 9AM

Prospective and Experienced Highpower Rifle Shooters will be able to shoot alongside the prestigious US Army Marksmanship Unit, or AMU in a Mentor Match to be held prior to the Big Ed’s Memorial and the NRA Regional Matches. It doesn’t matter whether you are an experienced shooter or have never held an AR-15 before and would like to give highpower marksmanship a try.  The AMU will provide a rifle, ammo, and magazines if you don’t have a rifle of your own. The course of fire will be the 50 Shot National Match Course fired with sighters at 200, 300, and 600 yards in a relaxed and congenial environment.  No scores will be turned in – No pressure.  This will be an opportunity for the experienced shooters to hone skills and receive coaching on the finer points of your techniques, and for newer shooters to learn the game and fall in with our highpower club.  Plan on staying most of the day, so pack drinks and a light lunch, and bring weather-appropriate clothing, and eye, and ear protection.  ORSA always requires EYE and EAR PROTECTION on all our ranges.   Also, bring a notebook and pen for taking notes to retain and to study.  Cost is free of charge.  We look forward to seeing you!

Please RSVP to Michael Glasman, clocktime@tds.net, 865-671-2698 and indicate if you will be needing rifle and ammo.  SPACES ARE LIMITED. Please respond as soon as possible if you wish to secure a spot.  In your RSVP response, to make it possible to plan for your maximum benefit, follow the following format:

1. Experience: State your NRA Classification or if you have ever shot an AR-15 highpower rifle competition.

2. Equipment:  AR-15 with 20 inch barrel, Iron Sights, Cotton Web Sling, or M-1907 Pattern Leather/Synthetic Sling.  If you don’t have rifle and sling, this will be provided by the AMU.   If you compete, and have your own gear, bring it.

3. Duration: Make sure you are able to the entire day.  You will need to score as many shots for your fellow shooters as you fired. There will also be valuable discussion after the match to go over your experience and lessons learned.  Hopefully we will be complete by around 3pm.

DATES:  Wednesday, April 30, 2014, and Wednesday, June 4, 2014
